Debbie Lee

Born on October 11th 1954 in Pontiac Michigan to a family of 8, I always liked music even as a child. We had a big family and money was tight so we found ways to earn money so we could buy or do special things. I mopped floors for my aunt Bessie on Saturdays by doing this I earned enough money so I could go roller skating and buy 45 records. I still have all my 45’s today.

As a teenager I was 14 when I began baby sitting for a family of musicians, the father Marty b.  Had heard me singing to myself one night and he said you have a great voice and it is very unique you should be singing in a band. I was very shy and did not know how I would get up in front of people and sing, with out fainting, But Marty took me under his wing and worked with me to get me over the shyness and he then gave me the stage name of Debbie lee. With the help Marty and gene Farris and The Ten High Drifters I became a professional singer at age 15.

The Ten High a bar in Clarkston had Sunday jamborees each week. This is where I started and I remember my first time on stage I was so nervous. I could not even look at the crowd. I even forgot a couple of the words but no one knew except me. When I heard the applause of the audiences and I knew right then and there I wanted to be a singer for the rest of my life.

Marty’s two sons and I formed my first band called Billy Joe and the country four featuring Debbie lee. We played weddings and private affairs until I was old enough to get in to bars. After I was old enough I joined Marty’s band called Marty b and the rovers featuring Debbie lee.

I went on to form my own band called Debbie lee and girl power. I also played with Curly Williams and the Night Hawks at Savoy Lanes in Pontiac for a short time. I played all over Pontiac and Waterford doing bars, clubs, fairs, private parties, and festivals. After 3 years I went on to meet Jerry Foust and we formed jerry and united country featuring Debbie lee. Band names seemed to be long back then. The 4 years we were together went by fast too! Eventually I left the band and went on my own again.

I opened up for and played with jonnie Rodriegus, Bobby G. Rice, Red Solvine , Jerry Lee Lewis and Sha na na na. After a while I moved to Riverside California and played at the many Moose Clubs and Eagles Clubs through out Orange County California. One of my greatest challenges was singing the national anthem for a local baseball club in Riverside.

After 2 and ˝ years I moved back to Michigan. Again I met up with jerry Foust and we formed The Snake River band, that was 23 years ago and I still lead sign in the band today. My most special memories were playing for the Vietnam vets, And desert storm troops. And singing god blesses the USA a cappella to the World War II vets at the memorial in down town flint.

We work very closely with MDA, for over 20years we have done benefits each year and have raised over 70,000 dollars. Also make a wish foundation and mentally challenged adults in Lapeer for about 10 years.

My mentors were patsy cline and Willie nelson and most people say I sound like patsy cline. I played country music most of my career, and although I like all types, all my life I wanted to play and sing oldies it was in my heart and sole, and when I heard songs by Connie francs and Neal Sedaka, I would have instance memories happy ones and my feet and hands were just rockin I knew this type of music was so exciting and this is what I wanted to sing so I lived it, I felt it, and I loved it. That was when we decided to change our format and name. After 23 years we went from being know as The Snake River band to Debbie Lee and the Kruizers playing oldies, classic rock & blues. We are still doing clubs, bars, etc!! But now are doing classic car shows and having a ball

A life long dream of mine is becoming a reality with the release of our 1st CD titled kruizin the classics it will be released in late 2004. And was recorded at Topaz Recording Studios in Flushing MI. It was recorded and Produced by Norm Coleman, and I want to give my thanks to Norm for making my first recording experience an amazing one that I will never forget

I have so many people to thank for getting me where I am today God above who watches over me and has allowed me the talent to sing the music I love. And my mother who was a big part of my dream to become a professional singer, through all the hard times we had as kid’s and her medical struggles, her strength and will to fight and not give up was inspiring to me and her courage to make the most out of life’s bad situations is amazing. My cousin Jenny, whom always believed in me and my dream, kept encouraging me. But most importantly she never let me stop believing in me. My family and friends who always stand by me

To the 3 wonderful guys who are the band Ron, Rob, and Scott All my love and heart felt thanks goes out to you. Without you all, I would not be me. They inspire me to be the best musician and person I can be and I am truly blessed to have them in every aspect of my life. There my family, my friends, my life.

There so many more people who shared this journey with me to many to name but you know who you are. I was very lucky to have worked with so many wonderful musicians. They taught me so much about the business and I hope to meet many more along the way as I continue my musical journey through life

Most importantly I want to thank you for being a fan and taking the time to read this and learn more about how I became one of “The Kruizers” god bless

Love

Debbie lee
